THE STORY
Thirteen years into forest exile, a deer of impossible gold walks out of the treeline at Panchavati. Sita asks for it. Rama follows it into the trees. Lakshmana draws a line she must not cross.
It is not greed. It is the first beautiful thing she has seen in thirteen years.
The deer is Maricha in borrowed skin, sent by Ravana to empty the hut. When Rama finally looses the arrow, the dying Maricha calls out in Rama's own voice — and Sita, hearing it, sends Lakshmana after him. She crosses the line. Ravana is already at the door.
The artwork holds the instant before everything changes.
THE ART
Drawn in the register of Indian folk narrative painting. Figures are flat, frontal and built from simple geometry. There is no perspective — the forest sits above the scene rather than behind it. Repetition does the work that shading does elsewhere.
The complete plate prints across the back at full scale: the thatched hut of Panchavati, Sita seated with her water vessels, Rama with drawn bow, the golden deer at the centre in its halo of rays, Lakshmana with his quiver, the river and grove above, peacock and hares below, and a full border of linked dancers holding all four sides.
Nothing is cropped, redrawn or simplified to fit the garment. At the left chest, the golden deer stands alone.
THE INSPIRATION
Indian folk narrative painting — the tradition that includes Warli, Gond and the pata scroll. A border of linked dancers frames all four sides, because in these traditions a story is never told alone.

Oversized drop-shoulder tee in five colourways — Black, Carmine Maroon, Chocolate Brown, Moss Green and Pearl Blue. The complete plate prints across the back at full scale, border and title cartouche intact at every size, with the golden deer alone at the left chest.
